Sultan Haitham City: Oman’s new Sustainable smart development


The design of the Sultan Haitham City’s residential quarters provide privacy a range of options that combine high and low densities to accommodate all income groups.

Oman has announced the development of a new city, named Sultan Haitham City, the completed project will house 100,000 people in 20,000 new homes.

Plans for Sultan Haitham City is in line with Oman’s Vision 2040. The city will occupy an area of 14.8 million sq m, and has been planned to reflect sound and sustainable urban planning based on the utilisation of green spaces on an area of 2.9 million sq m.

It will house 100,000 people and it have 20,000 housing units ranging between:

* Flats

Sultan Haitham City: Sustainable living and community services The city was inaugurated at the Bait al Baraka Palace through digital panels showcasing the city’s various housing options that adopts sustainable lifestyles and cultural heritage.

The housing units are distributed over 19 residential neighbourhoods, supplied with various facilities and services to meet the needs of the residents.

It will have 23 mosques and a grand mosque.

The city will have 11 health facilities, including two health centres that cater to the needs of 20,000 patients and another set of six health centres with a capacity to serve 10,000 patients.

Sustainable living
The city aims to be sustainable and is planned to raise the quality of life with the use of sustainable resources including solar energy, wastewater treatment, reuse, recycle, a sustainability system to protect resources and more.

Internal transport network
Sultan Haitham city will operate an internal transport network which will be developed with carefully calculated distances to be able to provide access to the most number of facilities.
The network will be for use by both public and private transport. Additionally, there will also be pedestrian passages and bicycle paths to diversify the means of transport and traffic as well as to keep in line with the goal of sustainability.
